about

A Japanese architectural concept gave this album not only its title, A Life with Large Opening, but also its whole philosophy.

Architect Sou Fujimoto, to whom every wall is a window, thus delivers a concept likely to “open up minds, create empathy and solidarity”. According to Fujimoto, “togetherness is communication, but it requires mutual respect”.

We responded to his ethics with our desire to defend this open-mindedness, in the lyrics as well as in the music, keeping in mind that we are indeed responsible for how we interact with the world, for making openness to the others a life concept – “Look while you may!”

Stepping back from political discourse in order to reconnect with essential things, we lay a poetic eye onto the world, a world in which communication, respect and solidarity should be key words. The music from A Life with Large Opening was written as a response to these ideas.

For this desire to be expressed, choosing the right place to work in was important. A vast space in which sound could resonate and did not have to be rushed. The music was born and took shape in “Tapis Vert”, a place buried in the forest in the Orne area. Playing and recording live, in harmony with our desire and the quality of the place, allowed us to rediscover the sensations of performing while touring, and to establish a common purpose: that of sharing.

What we achieved was building up a sound, finding the apt words for many stories that eventually became one story with the same consistent and strong musical color. Bass, drums and Wurlitzer are the one foundation for all tracks. Added to these are the band’s musical explorations with loops, samples and field-recordings, which give Samba de la Muerte its unique sound.

We take pride in this home-made album, having recorded and mixed it ourselves, and we want this sound to be our trademark.

A Life with Large Opening’s repertoire feeds on electronic reveries and a multiplicity of references. It bears witness to our artistic development and undoubtedly to a newly acquired sense of completeness.

The album is an assertion of our style, a touching and generous desire for our music to convey a powerful sense of deliverance and inspiration.

Enjoy the music, dance to it, let yourself go. Thank you!
