Chaud et suave Favorite track: Enough Is Enough.

about

« Landmark: What allows you to recognise or localise something into space and time. »
The analogy instantly comes to mind when one discovers Samba De La Muerte’s new EP Landmark.

Landmark and its singles “They Still Have Their Guns” or “Lockdown Groove”, which received praise from Gilles Peterson (Worldwide FM) and Andrew Jervis (Curator In Chief Bandcamp) comes as a sequel to the album « A Life with Large Opening ». The album received support from French national radio France Inter’s host Rebecca Manzoni, which gave the band an opportunity to tour from Paris to Mexico.
Where the album praises openness and benevolence, Landmark EP pursues this quest of markers in a world that sometimes feels on the verge of collapse.

For Samba De La Muerte, music is a medium helping us to find our way into space,  go through that space and even venture into unknown territories.
With this new opus, the Normandy based formation keeps on paving the way for a form of creation free of musical borders.
Here, the music highlights spontaneity, the warm afro groove, the transcendent electronic, all of it through beautiful collaborations, pushing the limits of sound texture, which has been the trademark of the band.

« Since A Life with Large Opening, I have found my spot, my way of writing music. With Landmark, I made the most of a comfortable situation creation-wise, in order to try to go further into experimenting more and keep on taking risks. I also realised a deep dream of giving the lead part to other artists on my own tracks, it’s very rewarding », says leader Adrien Leprêtre.

As often with Adrien, this EP was devised as a constantly evolving architectural piece.
The opening of Landmark sounds like a strong assertion with the committed track “They Still Have Their Guns”, bringing to light Philippe Boudot’s drums. The following track, “Backbone”, is an afro-jazz anthem, in which Martin Daguerre’s saxophone sings pure melodies.
Presenting an all star cast, the EP gradually creates a joyful chemistry between electronic and hybrid sonorities that will stick with us. We gladly dive into the solar “Lockdown Groove”, coming as an opening for the culmination of this opus: “Mit Manade”. This afro-futuristic bomb made with Kenyan singer Blinky Bill takes us on a trans guiding us to the last and eponymous track, “Landmark”.
Last, the Dub edit of “Enough Is Enough” by Parisian Dj and producer Hugo LX brings an endearing and original touch to the EP.

Defying formats and context, Samba De La Muerte keeps surprising us, and feeds itself with new encounters. With Landmark, the band brings a more frenetic and joyful sound to its/their discography.
Since Samba De La Muerte won’t be able to perform their summer tour, Adrien Leprêtre uses the release of this new EP as an opportunity to prepare an enhanced live experience, and to make us want to dance!
